Here you will see findings from the northern part of Ithaca dating back to the early-Helladic to the Roman period. The building was constructed in 1933. It was renovated in 1994. Most of the finds come from excavations in Cave Loizos and Pilkata. The excavations were conducted by the British Archaeological School of Athens. While the findings in Loizos were of religious character, Pilikata brought to surface a prehistoric settlement.

Among the most important findings, you will see:

The Church of Panagia in Anogi, built at an altitude of 500m, is one of the largest and most important and oldest churches in the Balkans. It was built gradually 700 years ago. The interior of the church is of great interest as it covered with Byzantine style frescoes and has been declared by the Ministry of Education a protected historical monument (1959). Painter Anthony of Agrafa (middle of the 17th century) has painted marvelous images of Saints and Angel. He finished his work in 1680.

The Monastery of the Kathara, pilgrimage and reference point for all inhabitants of Ithaca, is built on the south-eastern peak of the Homeric Mount Nirito in a nice corner, 600m from the sea and 15 km. from Vathy. The history of the monastery begins in 1696.

The history of the image of the Virgin is even older, as reported by Father Theodosius Dendrinos in the second edition of his book 'The Monastery of Our Lady of Kathara, Ithaca'. In local dialect the name “Kathara” means the twigs and small shrubs which are cut and burned to clear some place.

This little white church is built in a rock and provides a breathtaking view. You can go there from Marathias via a short uphill footpath.

From Perachori there is a footpath which leads to the ruined medieval Palaiochora, where there are churches with wonderful Byzantine frescoes. The view during the ascent is impressive.

It is also known as "Marmarospilia" (=the Marble Cave). It has two entrances, one for Gods and one for mortals. According to the myth, Odysseus hid the gifts of the Phaeacians among stalagmites. It is located at an altitude of 190 meters over Dexa Bay.

It is the third mountain village of Ithaca and one of the oldest settlements on the island.  It is 21 km from Vathi and it is situated at an altitude of 350 m. on  Niion mountain. In the Middle Ages and the early Venetian Times, Exogi was one of the main settlements of Ithaca because of its position that could see the northern part of the island and provide safety from pirate raids. In the early 19th century, the inhabitants moved to the settlements of Stavros and Platrithia and later a wave of migration resulted in the dramatic reduction of the population.

North of Filiatro Beach you will find Gidaki. Its natural beauty is famous around the world and is definitely one of the best and most beautiful beaches in Greece. You can enjoy the sun and the sea while gazing at the coast of mainland Greece and the uninhabited islets. Accessible by boat or by Skines footpath.

This small bay is located east of Vathy and has turquoise waters and a beautiful beach ideal for relaxation.

Crossing a dreamy landscape with "tropical" vegetation you will reach the splendid sea of ​​the Bay of Afales. This is a gorgeous place with a pebbly beach, rocky coastline and two isolated beaches, for those who seek absolute tranquility. Also, in the Bay of Afales there are other pebbly or sandy beaches, which can only be reached by boat. There are wonderful blue waters and towering cliffs which provide shade. All beaches are very crowded in August.
