Archaeological Collection at Vathy

The museum was built in the 1960s based on the architectural standards of the times. In the exhibition you will see findings from the Geometric to the Roman period. There is a small collection of vessels of the Geometric period which were made in a local workshop and thus called “Ithakisia” (=coming from Ithaca).

Also, there is an impressive collection of small items. These miniature objects were deposited on the shrine of Apollo by followers. Many statuettes, including a small bronze bust of Odysseus, were also found in the same area. Among the most important findings, you will see:

  • A ring-shaped vase with angular sides, decorated with dense thin lines on the sides and striped triangles on the neck. Late Geometric period.
  • A dedicatory inscription mentioning Athena and Hera. Late Archaic period.
